AS9102C Form 3 Details
7. (CR) Characteristic Designator: If applicable, record characteristic designators [e.g., critical items (see 9100 clause 3.3), key characteristics (see 9100 clause 3.4), flight safety] on the engineering drawing or as defined by the customer. If no designator is assigned to a characteristic on the drawing, then field 7 may be left blank.
10. (CR) Designed / Qualified Tooling: For Computer Aided Inspection (CAI) software, record the machine, file name, and revision/date to address “tool identification number.” When the results are recorded with variable data, the field should not be used.
The only place where AS9102 requires the tool number to be recorded in Field 10 on Form 3 is as defined in the form usage instructions, and only when it’s truly designed tooling.
Design tooling examples are Final Assembly Jig, Check Fixtures, or part specific and designed to verify a given design characteristic.
This field is not intended to record the tool number of every type of tool (i.e., Caliper, Micrometer, Bore Gauge, Air Gauge, etc.). The form instructions have to be complied with utilizing the correct definition of the terms used within the instructions.
As noted within the form instructions, if Qualified tooling is used for attribute acceptance, record the gauge value or range, not the tool number.
A radius check with two radius gauges showing the radius is within the tolerance of the requirement would have the range of the radius gauges used recorded in field 10.
